Knife crime in the UK has shifted from being an occasional headline to an everyday reality.
In England and Wales, police record around 50,000 knife‑related offences a year — roughly one every 10 minutes. In 2025–26 alone, over 53,000 knife crimes were logged, with London accounting for nearly 30–31% of all incidents despite holding just 14% of the population. What’s more disturbing is who is affected: over 60% of victims are aged 16–34, and almost half of knife possession offences involve children aged 10–17. Knife homicides remain the most common form of homicide in England and Wales, with over 200 deaths each year. This is no longer about isolated acts of violence — it’s a normalised threat woven into daily life, particularly for young people growing up in deprived urban areas.
